San Diego Festival of Sail and Kickoff Parade!

san diego festival of sail paradeShips and sailing have always been a part of San Diego’s history, heritage and livelihood.  To celebrate this oceanic past and present, every year the San Diego Maritime Museum hosts the Festival of Sail, the LARGEST tall ship festival on the west coast!  Over Labor Day weekend the Festival will transform the entire North Embarcadero in Downtown San Diego into a nautical theme park for 4 days of fantastic ocean adventures.  Daily admission is just $5 per person for the whole family, and every year the Festival of Sale begins with a parade!

The day before the Festival, Thursday August 29th, the flotilla of tall ships will sail majestically into San Diego Bay, led by the official tall ship of California, the Californian, and the official parade escort, the Pilot.  Head down to watch the parade, enjoy canon fire salutes, and watch the ships journey to their temporary home on the Maritime Museum’s docks!  If you want to get even more involved, a limited number of tickets are available to sail on the flagships themselves.  So head down to San Diego Bay to hang out and watch the show, or buy your tickets now to join the procession!
