University of San Diego (USD)

Type: Private Catholic

Population: 5,000

Bottom Line: Beautiful smaller, private University with great academics and atmosphere.

 

San Diego State University (SDSU)

Type: Public State School

Population: 30,000

Bottom Line: State school feel with great athletics and a gorgeous campus!

 

University of California, San Diego (UCSD)

Type: Public State School

Population: 28,000

Bottom line: Top-tier academics in both undergraduate and graduate programs, especially in the fields of science and engineering.

 

Point Loma Nazrene University

Type: Private Christian

Population: 3,000

Bottom Line: Small liberal arts college in a beautiful setting, with graduate programs in Biology, Business, Education, Nursing and Theology.

 

California State University – San Marcos (CSUSM)

Type: Public State School

Population: 10,000

Bottom Line: Nestled in North County San Diego, the campus is new and well-outfitted.  Great for full-time, part-time or transfer students.
