san diego sandcastle competitionIf you find yourself near downtown San Diego this Labor Day Weekend – perhaps attending the San Diego Festival of Sail, or just taking in the sights – don’t miss the US Sand Sculpting Challenge and 3D Art Exhibition!  This incredible, one-of-a-kind competition will go far beyond traditional sand castles, featuring several categories: professional world masters, national championship teams, California masters, and students at middle, high school and college levels.  The Art Exhibition will feature works from leading California stone, metal and wood sculptors, 3D wall art, toys and art for kids, and designer clothing and jewelry.  For added fun, entertainment surrounding the event will include musicians, dancers, singers, storytellers, magicians and more!

The San Diego US Sand Sculpting Challenge will take place at B Street Cruise Ship Terminal Pier downtown, just two blocks south of the San Diego Festival of Sail, August 30 – September 2.  Tickets are $9 for adults ($6 if you show your MTS Transit Pass!); $6 for children under 12, seniors and active military; and toddlers get in free.  4-day passes are also available at a discounted rate, and a significant portion of all proceeds will go toward local arts education programs.  So get the family together, take the Coaster, trolley or your bikes downtown, and get in on the fun!
